I don’t think it is any secret that golden hour photography is my favorite time to take pictures! The lighting is perfect and the skin glows! Maddie and Sam’s session are the perfect examples of this!
You might be wondering what golden hour is, and I am here to tell you it is the best! It is the period of time shortly after sunrise or before sunset when the sun is low in the sky and the light is soft and warm.
✨ It’s magic ✨
The sun creates a beautiful, dreamy effect that makes even the most ordinary subjects look stunning. I’m here to tell you that this time of day almost never disappoints. JVKE has a music video that is a fun over-exaggeration of the sparkle I’m talking about!
Tips for Golden Hour Photographs
- Plan ahead: the light is only golden for a short period of time, it’s important to plan your shoot ahead of time. I usually recommend that my couples set aside some time during their wedding day for this! I spend a lot of time making sure I know golden hour times based on the time of year and location.
- Check the weather: The weather can play a big role in how a session works. Check the weather forecast ahead of time to make sure it’s going to be clear and sunny. If it isn’t going to be nice out, I offer all of my clients a free reschedule.
- Plan your location: I scout out locations ahead of time to make sure we are all set. Things like being on top of a mountain or in a valley will affect what the lighting is like during golden hour.
Golden hour photography is a beautiful and rewarding form of photography that can create stunning, dreamy images. With the right planning, anyone can have the magic of the golden hour in their photos. Next time you’re planning a photoshoot let’s connect and get you the best photos ever!
