Tips for Patterns when Picking an Outfit to Wear
If wearing patterned clothing for your photo shoot, pick pieces that complement your skin tone, hair color, and overall style. You can also think about the setting and background of the photo shoot. Choose patterns that will create a striking contrast against a solid-colored wall or natural landscape. Remember that less more! Your outfit should compliment you – not the other way around.
Here are my favorite suggestions for couples when picking patterns to wear:
- Light Floral Prints
- Lace
- Corduroy
- Knits
- Flannel (as long as it isn’t too bold, and the colors work well. See more on color here.)
Subtle, smaller patterns usually work well. A flannel or a light floral print are great picks. Textured clothing is another option that adds depth to photos! When in doubt, ask your photographer. They will be able to help you find patterns that photograph well
Here are the patterns I tell people to avoid when picking colors to wear:
- Bold Prints
- Stripes
- Patterns with a lot of different colors
These patterns look very aggressive and will distract from the photo’s focus – you! The final photos will not look the best, and your face will get lost in the blur of patterns
